The process
How mediation works
A clear, step-by-step guide to what you can expect from the mediation journey.
A process designed around you
Mediation is flexible and confidential. You set the pace, and together we work towards agreements that work for your whole family. Most families reach agreement within two to four sessions.
Initial enquiry
Get in touch by phone, WhatsApp, or email. I'll answer your initial questions and explain how mediation could help your situation — completely free of charge.
MIAM
Each party attends a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) individually. This is a legal requirement before court and gives you a chance to understand the process in detail.
Joint sessions
Once both parties agree to proceed, we meet together for joint mediation sessions. I'll help you communicate constructively and work through the issues that matter most.
Reaching agreement
As agreements are reached, I'll document them in a Memorandum of Understanding. For financial matters, this can be made legally binding by a solicitor.
Moving forward
With agreements in place, you can move forward with confidence — avoiding the cost, delay, and stress of court proceedings.
Why choose mediation?
Cost effective
Mediation typically costs a fraction of court proceedings, saving thousands in legal fees.
Faster resolution
Most cases resolve in weeks rather than the months or years court can take.
You stay in control
You make the decisions — not a judge. Agreements are tailored to your family's unique needs.
Better for children
Mediation reduces conflict and helps parents maintain a working relationship for the benefit of their children.
Confidential
Everything discussed in mediation is private and cannot be used in court proceedings.
Flexible
Sessions can be held in person or online, at times that suit you.
